San Francisco is one of the most exciting cities on the west coast. It offers all the excitement of a big city without the population. There is truly something for everyone. To get the ultimate San Francisco experience, stay in the downtown San Francisco hotels, visit the sights on the coast, and catch all the attractions in the city.
Don’t make the mistake of staying outside of the city to save a few bucks. You will just end up spending the money on transportation to get you into the city, and you will waste at least an hour both ways on your commute. Staying in a hotel downtown will allow you to be right in the heart of all the action. Your options for where to stay are limitless; there are a plethora of hotels with both character and history. Many of the city’s most famous hotels are over a hundred years old, and survived a catastrophic earthquake which resulted in a fire that burned much of the city. These majestic buildings stood as a symbol of hope as the city rebuilt after the devastation. Today, they are a reminder of the shear will of the city and its people. There are all kinds of hotels from boutique and luxurious to quaint and charming. Whatever you decide, remember these three simple words; location, location, location!
Head to the Bay
San Francisco is known for its beautiful coast line. In addition to the breathtaking views, the shore offers a variety of entertainment. Stroll through Fisherman’s Wharf and indulge in some creamy clam chowder, freshly baked sour dough bread and crispy fish and chips. The wharf has tour boats that will take you around the both bridges and to Alcatraz. Curiosity shops and cafes line the street. Head north to the Ferry Station where there is a Farmers Market a couple times a week which offers organic produce and fresh meat and flowers. If you want to see the whole coast line, rent bikes and bike up through the wharf, past the ferry station and on to the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire expedition will take more of your day, but the views are well worth it. There is nothing quite like biking across one of the most iconic bridges in the world. Once you get to the other side, you can enjoy a bite in one of the charming Sausalito Cafes then take the ferry back across the bay and head back to one of the downtown San Francisco hotels for some shut eye.
Explore the City
The city is bursting with interesting things to do and see. For a more diverse afternoon, head over to China town and sample the original fortune cookie or peruse little Italy. Both have lots of yummy things to eat and enjoy. For a more cultured experience, head to an art museum or tour the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral. You can walk all day and see everything from Knob Hill to Lombardo Street. Wherever you choose to go, be sure to bring your best walking shoes.
San Francisco offers something for everyone. So, book a few nights in one of the downtown San Francisco Hotels, discover the coast, and explore the city.
